End of Year Impact Report 2023

Cyclical Roots is devoted to ethical, anti-oppressive business practices that advocate for intersectional justice, collective healing, and marginalized communities. 

We redistribute a portion of our profits to these people and movements, and as 2023 comes to a close, we are publishing our End of Year Impact Report!

Pay it Forward Funds:

In an effort to do our part in dismantling unjust systems & hierarchies of capitalism, we created a fund dedicated to awarding journals to financially-affected folks with a prioritization to those who self-identify as BIPOC &/or are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

We believe in equitable access to offline cycle tracking tools. We recognize there are often barriers from receiving the education and care we all deserve – and so wanted to find a way to create connections and opportunity instead.

This is why we started the Pay It Forward Program. Our goal is to pave paths for Cycles Journal to support as many cyclical beings as possible.

• Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are thrilled to be awarding scholarships and discounts to over 120 applicants!

Environmental Justice

As part of our Core Values of being intentional & nature-centric at Cyclical Roots, we carefully consider our decisions, collaborations, and productions to ensure ethical standards are prioritized for people & planet over profit.

Sustainability and transparency is always our goal, and as an artist-driven, independently funded and created micro-business, we can prioritize it.

This is why we self-publish and are independently-funded, so that we can ensure that every part of the creation process aligns with our values.

• This year, 60 trees were planted via One Tree Planted – that's an estimated 35.09 lbs. of CO2 emissions reduced!
• We forward funds per order for Planet's Climate-Neutral Shipping via the Century Plan which splits our support between temporary and long-term carbon removal. To date, we've funded $261 in carbon removal, 3,338 carbon-neutral deliveries, and 3,268 kg shipping emissions removal. Read more about how this is done here.

Advocacy

We aim to empower, center and uplift marginalized communities and individuals through our Advocacy Efforts. We acknowledge that forwarding funds is not the whole solution, but an important part of the whole efforts to rebalance equity in the midst of imperialism. Your purchases make this possible!

• 30% of our Cyclical Mindfulness Guide proceeds have been forwarded to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund ($90 total donated as of 12/14)
• $150 have been forwarded from our Black Friday/Cyber Monday Indigenous Advocacy Sale ---> $75 to First Nations Development Institute, $75 to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund
• Our Reproductive Rights Apparel Fundraiser has raised nearly $200
• July + August: $73 total donated to Online Abortion Resource Squad (OARS)
• May: $38 combined with our World Environment Day fundraiser to Mission Blue.
• February – April: No fundraiser sales
• January: $86 donated to Online Abortion Resource Squad (OARS)
